Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, has approved the release of over ₦21 billion to settle outstanding retirement and death gratuities owed to workers of the Katsina State Government, Local Governments, and the Local Education Authorities.
The approval was disclosed on Thursday, December 18, 2025, by the Head of the State Civil Service, Alhaji Falalu Bawale, during the inaugural meeting of the committee constituted by the state government to coordinate the disbursement of the funds.
According to Bawale, the funds are intended to clear all outstanding retirement and death benefits covering the period from September 2023 to October 2025. He explained that the approval is aimed at eliminating accumulated backlogs and improving the welfare of retired workers as well as the families of deceased public servants.
A breakdown of the approval shows that ₦7.7 billion has been earmarked as a one-off payment for retired state civil servants and families of deceased workers, with payment scheduled for December 2025. In addition, over ₦14 billion has been approved for former staff of Local Governments and Local Education Authorities, to be disbursed in tranches over four months, from December 2025 to March 2026.
Bawale recalled that Governor Radda had earlier approved the release of over ₦23 billion to clear outstanding retirement and death benefits accrued between January 2019 and August 2023.
The Katsina State Government said the latest approval underscores its commitment to workers’ welfare and the prompt settlement of earned benefits.
